Background
Hiei is the child of a Koorime woman and a fire demon. The Koorimes were all ice demonesses and produced children on their own. But Hiei's mother fell in love with a male fire demon. She gave birth to twins, Hiei and his sister, Yukina. Hiei was thrown off a cliff because he was a male and had fire ki. The Elders thought he would bring misfortune upon all of the tribe. But Hiei survived and was raised by a band of thieves. He became an A class youkai at an early age. When Yukina found out about Hiei, she went to look for him and disappeared. Yukina was gone when Hiei returned to the land of the Koorimes. Rui, a friend of his mother's, told him that Yukina left to look for him, and her whereabouts were unknown. So, Hiei got his Jagan to help find her. But getting the Jagan reduced his class to a lower D class, making him a very low class demon for a while.
Later, he met up with Kurama to go to Reikai to steal three treasures and was caught by Urameshi Yusuke. To make up for his crime, he had to become one of the Reikai Tanteis, and work for Koenma.
